GATE 2027 application correction window to open October 14: what changes are allowed

IIT Madras is scheduled to open the application form correction window for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 from October 14 to October 21, 2026. Candidates who have submitted their GATE 2027 application forms will be able to rectify specific errors via the GOAPS portal at gate2027.iitm.ac.in during this seven-day period.

This correction window follows the conclusion of the regular registration period on September 27, 2026, and the extended registration period with a late fee, which closes on October 5, 2026. The window is intended to allow applicants to address discrepancies identified during the application scrutiny process, for which ‘defective’ applications will receive notifications via email or SMS/WhatsApp.

Editable Fields and Required Documentation

The GATE 2027 correction window will permit changes to several particulars. These include exam cities, gender, name, category, PwD status, address details of parents or guardians, college name, location, roll number, registration number, exam paper, and date of birth. Candidates changing their name must upload a name change document in PDF format, with a file size between 10 to 600 KB. Similarly, date of birth changes require the submission of a 10th marksheet.

Changes in category, such as from SC/ST to General/OBC or vice-versa, are allowed. Alterations to PwD status (Yes to No, No to Yes, or Dyslexia with other similar learning abilities) necessitate the submission of relevant documents or valid proof. Candidates can also add or remove exam papers, provided they adhere to the specified combination list. Exam city preferences can be updated, subject to seat availability at the time of correction.

Correction Fees and Non-Editable Fields

A correction fee may be applicable for certain types of changes. This includes alterations that result in an increase in the application fee, such as changing from a concessional category to a General category, or adding a second examination paper. A general correction processing fee may also apply irrespective of the specific type of change made. However, changes that do not affect the fee, such as updating exam city preferences or re-uploading a photograph, may be permitted without an additional charge. The application fee, once paid, is non-refundable under any circumstances.

Certain critical fields are locked after the initial submission to maintain the integrity of legal identity verification. These non-editable fields include the full name, date of birth, gender, registered email address, and in most cases, the mobile number. The fee structure for corrections aligns with patterns seen in previous GATE cycles, where charges are levied based on whether the change impacts the overall application fee.

GATE 2027 Important Dates and Application Details

The GATE 2027 Information Brochure was released on July 20, 2026, with online registration commencing on September 2, 2026. The last date for regular registration without a late fee was September 27, 2026, while registration with a late fee is open until October 5, 2026. The GATE 2027 examination is scheduled to be conducted across six days: February 6–7, 13–14, and 20–21, 2027. Results are slated for announcement on March 19, 2027.

DigiLocker registration is a mandatory requirement for all Indian Nationals applying for GATE 2027. The application process includes scrutiny of uploaded photographs, signatures, documents, and entered details for any discrepancies. The GATE 2027 exam will cover 30 test papers, including a new Robotics & Automation (RA) paper. Eligibility for GATE 2027 extends to students in their 3rd year or higher of a 4-year undergraduate degree, or those who have completed a qualifying degree.
