GATE 2027 application status check open: last date for late fee registration is October 5

IIT Madras has commenced the application form status check for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 on the GOAPS portal as of September 28, 2026. This allows candidates who have submitted their forms to verify their registration status and ensure all details are correct. The registration process for GATE 2027, which began on September 2, 2026, is ongoing, with a final deadline for late fee submissions set for October 5, 2026.

The GATE examination is a national-level test that assesses candidates’ understanding of undergraduate-level subjects across various engineering and science fields. It is jointly conducted by IISc and IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. Qualified candidates utilise GATE scores for admission to postgraduate and doctoral programmes in MoE-supported institutions and for recruitment in several Public Sector Undertakings. The current registration cycle for GATE 2027 has incorporated upgraded features such as live facial verification and DigiLocker integration.

Checking GATE 2027 Application Status and Scrutiny Process

Candidates can access their GATE 2027 application status through the official GOAPS portal at https://goaps.iitm.ac.in/login by using their enrolment ID and password. Various statuses may appear, including ‘Received’, ‘Under Scrutiny’, ‘Accepted’, ‘Application submitted’ (payment not completed), ‘Application submitted and payment received successfully’, ‘Under Scrutiny: Defect rectification done’, and ‘Your application is incomplete or defective’. An ‘Under Scrutiny’ status indicates that the application is currently under review and verification by GATE authorities.

During the scrutiny process, candidates are unable to make any changes or edits to their GATE application. Should any discrepancies be identified, GATE authorities will contact the affected candidates via their registered email ID and mobile number. For applications marked ‘Defective/Incomplete’, candidates will need to rectify the issues within the timeframe specified by the GATE authority. It is advised that candidates continue to monitor their accounts for updated statuses after any defect rectification.

Key Dates and Application Fees for GATE 2027

The registration window for GATE 2027 with regular fees concluded on September 27, 2026. However, candidates still have the opportunity to register with a late fee until October 5, 2026. Following the registration period, an application form correction window will be available from October 14 to 21, 2026, allowing candidates to make necessary amendments to their submitted forms.

The application fee for Female, SC, ST, and PwD candidates is ₹1,000 per paper. For all other candidates, including foreign nationals, the fee is ₹2,000 per paper. A late fee is applicable for registrations made between September 22 and October 5, 2026, in addition to the standard application fee. The GATE 2027 Information Brochure, detailing all examination guidelines and procedures, was released on July 20, 2026.

Eligibility Criteria and Examination Details

For GATE 2027, students who are in their 3rd year or higher of a 4-year undergraduate degree programme are eligible to apply. There is no upper age limit specified for appearing in the examination. Indian citizens are required to complete DigiLocker authentication during the registration process, a requirement that does not apply to foreign applicants. Each candidate is permitted to submit only one application form using a single email address.

GATE 2027 will feature 30 test papers, including a new Robotics & Automation (RA) paper, and will be conducted over six days in both morning and afternoon sessions. The registration fee for GATE 2027 is non-refundable, except in cases of duplicate transactions. Specific guidelines for photograph and signature uploads mandate a maximum image size of 530 x 690 pixels and 600 KB for photos, and 580 x 180 pixels and 300 KB for signatures, respectively.
