The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national-level examination jointly conducted by IISc and IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. Qualified candidates use GATE scores for admission to postgraduate and doctoral programs in MoE-supported institutions, and Public Sector Undertakings also use these scores for recruitment. The GATE 2027 examination features 30 test papers, and scores remain valid for three years.

Understanding Application Status and Scrutiny
Candidates can check their GATE application form status 2027 on the GOAPS portal (gate2027.iitm.ac.in or goaps.iitm.ac.in) using their enrolment ID and password. Various statuses indicate different stages of the application process. For instance, an ‘Application submitted’ status indicates that payment has not yet been completed. An ‘Application submitted and payment received successfully’ status means the application will proceed to the scrutiny process.
An ‘Under Scrutiny’ status marks that the application is under review and verification. If an application is ‘Accepted’, it means the GATE registration form has been approved. In cases where defects are found, an ‘Under Scrutiny: Defect rectification done’ status indicates that issues were addressed and the application will undergo scrutiny again. A status of ‘Your application is incomplete or defective’ means that defects are present and rectification has not yet been completed. Candidates are unable to make changes or edits if their application is currently under the scrutinizing process. GATE authorities will contact candidates via their registered email ID or mobile number for any discrepancies.

Digilocker Requirement and Document Uploads
Indian applicants are required to link their DigiLocker account for GATE 2027 registration. Foreign applicants are exempt from this requirement. SC/ST candidates must upload a valid SC/ST certificate as ‘CATEGORY.pdf’ into their ‘GATE2027’ DigiLocker folder. Similarly, PwD candidates must upload a valid PWD certificate as ‘PWD_CERT.pdf’ and a UDID certificate as ‘UDID_CERT.pdf’ into the same ‘GATE2027’ DigiLocker folder.
The GATE 2027 registration fee is non-refundable, with the sole exception of duplicate transactions where valid proof is provided. Candidates are permitted to use only one email address for a single application form and can select up to two papers from the given combinations within that form.
