IIT Delhi and AIIMS Delhi Collaboration in AI Healthcare
The launch of this executive programme follows a significant collaboration between IIT Delhi and AIIMS Delhi. On June 4, 2025, the two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Center of Excellence for AI in Healthcare (AI-CoE). This AI-CoE will focus on developing AI-based solutions to support key national health programmes. The Ministry of Education awarded a grant of ₹330 crore to IIT Delhi and AIIMS Delhi under the ‘Make AI in India, Make AI Work for India’ initiative, with the proposed Centre of Excellence serving as the executing vehicle for this grant.
Prof. M. Srinivas, Director of AIIMS Delhi, stated that the MoU marks the beginning of far-reaching collaborative research with the potential to change the face of healthcare in the country. Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, expressed delight in shaping this national center of excellence, anticipating that its output will impact the lives of Indians. Dr. Krithika Rangarajan, Chief Project Manager leading the AI-CoE from AIIMS Delhi, emphasized keeping patients at the center of this effort. Prof. Chetan Arora, Chief Project Manager leading the AI-CoE from IIT Delhi, highlighted the CoE’s aim to revolutionize the national public health system using indigenously developed AI systems and solutions, with a focus on upscaling health services, upskilling healthcare providers, and improving accessibility to quality healthcare.
