The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi today, 5 October 2026, announced the opening of registrations for its Executive Programme for AI in Healthcare. This 24-week online executive course aims to empower healthcare professionals and technologists with AI-based skills, with the goal of revolutionising patient care in India.
The programme is a collaboration between IIT Delhi and TeamLease EdTech. It targets graduate professionals with relevant study and experience in industry or academia, including clinicians, engineers, data professionals, and med-tech entrepreneurs. The initiative comes as the Indian healthcare industry is projected to double its innovation potential to a $60 billion opportunity by FY28, with the digital healthcare market, driven by AI diagnostics and remote care, forecast to exceed $37 billion by 2030 by NITI Aayog and EY.
Programme Structure and Objectives
The Executive Programme for AI in Healthcare is structured to equip participants with skills to drive innovation across patient care, diagnostics, public health, and hospital operations. According to Professor Manav Bhatnagar, Head of CEP at IIT Delhi, the programme’s mission is to build next-gen capabilities that respond to India’s evolving healthcare needs, stating that AI is central to modern medicine.
The curriculum covers a broad range of topics, starting with the fundamentals of AI, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning. It includes practical skills such as Python and MATLAB basics, data handling with Pandas & Numpy, and the analysis of sample healthcare CSV data files, signals, and images. Shantanu Rooj, Founder and CEO of TeamLease EdTech, highlighted that the collaboration brings a powerful AI curriculum to those at the heart of healthcare innovation, preparing professionals to bridge the gap between clinical knowledge and data intelligence.
Key Course Content and Applications
The programme provides an overview of various healthcare data types, including EMR data, medical imaging data, histopathology images, physiological signals, genomics data, and IoT data. It addresses critical aspects of healthcare data management, such as anonymization, pre-processing, data curation, cleaning, missing value handling, normalization, feature engineering, data augmentation, and data splitting for training and testing.
Participants will also explore healthcare data ethics and compliance, covering regulations like HIPAA, GDPR, and DISHA. The course includes learning about big data and big data analytics using frameworks such as Apache Spark. It focuses on the development and optimization of ML models (Logistic Regression, Random Forest, SVM, Neural Network) and DL models (CNN, RNN, GANs, Transformer). Applications of AI in radiology, genomics, surgery, pharma, and regulatory basics are also covered, alongside building AI-powered decision support for doctors and automating administrative tasks. The curriculum extends to generative AI in healthcare, LLMs, no-code tools, prompt engineering, creating AI-powered healthcare dashboards, and deploying models on cloud platforms (GCP/AWS intro). Time-series modeling for prediction and geo-mapping disease spread are also included.
