The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Education Committee, chaired by Yogesh Verma, has set a target of 50,000 new admissions in its schools as part of the ‘School Chalo’ campaign. This initiative aims to bring significant improvements to MCD schools, focusing on quality education, modern facilities, sanitation, security, and a value-driven environment.

During a meeting on Tuesday, 2 November 2026, the committee issued several directives, including a 15-day deadline for expediting the recruitment process for around 2,800 multi-tasking staff (MTS) posts. These decisions are part of a broader effort to address existing gaps in school infrastructure and administrative processes.

Enrolment Drive and Staffing Initiatives

Under the ‘School Chalo’ enrolment drive, each MCD school has been instructed to secure at least 30 new admissions during November 2026. This target is central to the committee’s goal of expanding access to education within municipal schools. Concurrently, the committee has prioritized strengthening the workforce, particularly in areas of sanitation and security.

Officials have been directed to submit the recruitment file for approximately 2,800 MTS employees within 15 days from 2 November 2026. This recruitment is specifically aimed at bolstering sanitation and security arrangements across municipal schools, which the committee views as crucial for creating a conducive learning environment.

Infrastructure Upgrades and Maintenance

The MCD Education Committee has outlined specific timelines for enhancing school infrastructure. Officials were directed to fast-track the release of minor repair funds for school buildings, with the process required to be completed within 15 days from 2 November 2026. This aims to address immediate maintenance needs and improve the physical condition of school premises.

Further directives include a one-month deadline for installing five smartboards per school. In addition, within the same one-month period, must-have toilet facilities and new water coolers must be provided in relevant newly constructed schools. These measures are intended to modernize learning environments and ensure basic amenities for students.

Administrative Reforms and Value Education

To enhance administrative efficiency and transparency, the committee has directed officials to expedite rolling out an online teacher transfer policy. Officials were also asked to submit a detailed report on teacher transfers conducted so far, including the rules and criteria followed, to address discussed anomalies in the existing policy. Also, all schools and officials have been instructed to process files through the E-Office system to upgrade transparency, track pending work, and reduce delays in administrative decisions.

In a move to incorporate broader educational values, Yogesh Verma will constitute a panel of academicians. This panel is tasked with recommending ways to integrate moral values, civic responsibilities, environmental protection, and discipline into school education. The panel is expected to submit its report within one month from 2 November 2026. The committee also called for the installation of Aerobins or other suitable organic waste processing systems in schools to promote zero-waste campuses by processing biodegradable waste on site.
