NEET UG counselling 2026: HNBUMU cancels 15 MBBS admissions over fake certificates

Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University (HNBUMU) has cancelled 15 provisional MBBS admissions from the first and second rounds of Uttarakhand NEET UG 2026 counselling. The cancellations, announced on September 28, 2026, follow verification of candidates’ domicile, category, and sub-category certificates, which were found to be invalid, fraudulent, or not matching claims.

The affected candidates had secured seats across five government medical colleges in the state, under categories including OBC, SC, orphan, and EWS. The university stated that these candidates have no claim over their provisionally allotted seats, and the cancellations come just ahead of the third round of counselling, for which registration is set to begin on Tuesday.

Details of Cancelled Admissions and Verification Process

The 15 provisional MBBS seat allotments were cancelled after verification reports were received from District Magistrates and college principals. These reports indicated issues with the authenticity or validity of the domicile, category, and sub-category certificates submitted by the candidates. The NEET UG 2026 Uttarakhand Centralised Counselling Board stated that the list of candidates whose names appeared in the official notice have lost their seats entirely.

The cancellations specifically covered candidates who had opted for the FLOAT option in the earlier rounds. The probe into state-quota admissions for the first two rounds is ongoing, and the counselling authority has indicated that further lists of candidates may be uploaded as more verification reports are processed. Social activist and mediaperson Pradeep Bahuguna had initially raised allegations regarding forged certificates on September 3, 2026.

Impact on Colleges and Upcoming Counselling Rounds

The cancelled seats were distributed across five government medical colleges in Uttarakhand. Government Medical College Haldwani saw five cancellations, Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Government Institute of Medical Science and Research in Srinagar had four, Government Medical College Haridwar had three, Government Medical College Doon had two, and Government Medical College Almora had one cancellation. These seats will likely be included in subsequent counselling rounds.

Registration for the third round of Uttarakhand NEET UG 2026 counselling is scheduled to commence on Tuesday. Dr Ashutosh Sayana confirmed that all admissions in the third round will also be considered provisional until the candidates’ documents undergo verification. The NEET UG exam, initially held on May 3, 2026, was cancelled and re-conducted on June 21, 2026, with results declared on July 16, 2026.
