Telangana schools closed tomorrow for Ganesh idol immersion; November 14 is working day

The Telangana government has declared a holiday for all government offices, schools, and colleges in Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and the adjoining districts of Ranga Reddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri on Friday, September 25, 2026. This decision has been made on account of the Ganesh idol immersion procession, a significant annual event.

In lieu of this holiday, Saturday, November 14, 2026, which is a second Saturday, will be observed as a working day. The official order was issued by the General Administration (Special) Department through a Government Order, with Chief Secretary to the Government of Telangana, Sanjay Jaju, issuing the notification on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

Holiday Declared for Ganesh Idol Immersion

The holiday on September 25, 2026, aims to support the smooth conduct of the Ganesh idol immersion procession and to ease traffic congestion across the affected districts. A large number of devotees are expected to participate in the procession, necessitating measures to manage public movement and vehicular traffic effectively.

The order, issued by order and in the name of the Governor of Telangana, was published on September 23, 2026, at 07:58 PM. This annual declaration underscores the importance of the Ganesh idol immersion procession in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, which typically involves extensive public participation and logistical arrangements.

Security and Traffic Management in Place

Extensive security arrangements have been put in place for the final Ganesh Visarjan procession scheduled for Friday. The Hyderabad City Police has deployed approximately 20,000 personnel to manage the event. Additional security measures have been specifically arranged for the final procession originating from Balapur.

A detailed ‘bandobast’ strategy is being executed, considering the anticipated participation of lakhs of devotees and thousands of idols. These measures are being implemented in coordination with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSPDCL), and Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB), alongside the Government of Telangana. A tough security perimeter has been established across Hyderabad to ensure public peace and smooth proceedings.

Closure of Liquor Establishments

On top of the holiday and security deployments, all wine shops, toddy shops, and bars attached to restaurants within the limits of the Future City Police Commissionerate will remain closed. This closure will be effective from 6 am on Friday, September 25, to 6 am on Saturday, September 26. The order regarding the closure of liquor establishments was issued on Wednesday by Future City Police Commissioner Dr Tarun Joshi, IPS, under Section 20 of the Telangana State Excise Act, 1968.

This measure is intended to maintain public peace and tranquillity during the Ganesh idol immersion proceedings. The immersion of idols commenced on the third day of the festivities and has been proceeding peacefully in the days leading up to the final procession.
