The Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) of Tamil Nadu officially declared the results for the Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TNTET) 2026 for working teachers on October 12, 2026. This announcement affects over two lakh candidates who appeared for Paper I and Paper II of the examination, which determines eligibility for teaching positions in Classes 1 to 8 across schools in Tamil Nadu.

The declaration follows the tentative conduct of the TNTET Paper 1 exam on July 4, 2026, and Paper 2 on July 5, 2026. Candidates can access their results, indicating either “Qualified” or “Not Qualified” status, on the official TRB website, trb.tn.gov.in. The Supreme Court has mandated that all in-service teachers must clear TET within two years, making this examination compulsory for career advancement in the state’s teaching sector.
TNTET 2026 Examination Overview and Participation
For the 2026 cycle, a total of 61,386 candidates appeared for Paper 1, conducted at 222 examination centres across 38 districts in Tamil Nadu. Paper 2 saw participation from 1,67,743 candidates, who took the examination at 613 centres statewide. The examination is designed to assess candidates’ suitability for teaching roles, with Paper 1 focusing on Classes 1-5 and Paper 2 on Classes 6-8.

Paper 2 also consists of 150 MCQs for 150 marks, including Child Development & Pedagogy, Language I, Language II, and either Mathematics & Science or Social Science. Qualifying Marks and Previous Year’s Context
The minimum qualifying marks for the TNTET vary by category. General category candidates are required to secure 60% (90 marks out of 150). For Backward Classes (BC), BC(M), MBC/DNC, and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) categories, the minimum qualifying marks are 50% (75 marks out of 150). Scheduled Caste (SC), SC(A), and Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates need 40% (60 marks out of 150) to qualify. These relaxations in qualifying marks, which were reduced from 55% to 50% for MBCs and BCs, and from 55% to 40% for SC, ST, and SC(A) candidates, have been cited as a reason for an increase in the number of aspirants clearing the test compared to previous years.
In the previous test conducted in 2022, 36,973 candidates had cleared the exam. The number of aspirants clearing the Tamil Nadu teacher eligibility test (TN TET) increased by four times this year over the previous time due to easier question papers and relaxation in qualifying marks. A candidate noted, “The questions were asked from the Class I to Class XII textbooks for both papers. That is why a majority of the candidates were able to clear it. Particularly, Paper I for the secondary grade teachers was very easy.”
| Category | Minimum Marks Required (out of 150) |
|---|---|
| General | 90 (60%) |
| Backward Classes & PwD | 75 (50%) |
| SC / ST / SC(A) | 60 (40%) |
TNTET 2025 Results and Certificate Validity
The results for TNTET 2025 were officially released earlier, on January 31, 2026, by the Teachers Recruitment Board. For the 2025 cycle, Paper I was conducted on November 15, 2025, and Paper II on November 16, 2025. A total of 92,412 candidates appeared for Paper 1, and 3,31,923 candidates appeared for Paper 2 in TNTET 2025. E-certificates for TNTET 2025 were made available from February 2, 2026, onwards.
The TN TET certificate holds lifetime validity from its date of issue, a significant change as per official norms. Qualified candidates for the 2026 cycle can download their teacher eligibility certificates five days after the results were declared from their respective dashboards on the official website. P. Patric Rhymond, general secretary of the Tamil Nadu graduate teachers federation, has suggested that the state government should consider reducing the qualifying marks for general category candidates as well, along with conducting three TET exams as decided by the state government.
