Uttar Pradesh MBBS, BDS Interns Stipend Doubled To Rs 25,000: Complete Details, Comparison with Other States & More

The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has doubled the monthly stipend for MBBS and BDS interns from Rs 12,000 to Rs 25,000 per month. This significant decision, approved by the state Cabinet on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, will provide enhanced financial support to approximately 3,928 clinical interns undergoing compulsory rotatory internships in government medical colleges and universities across the state.

This move marks the second stipend increase under the Yogi government. In addition, the Cabinet also approved the purchase of 25 lakh tablets under the Swami Vivekananda Youth Empowerment Scheme, with a budget provision of Rs 2,374.60 crore for the 2026-27 fiscal year, further aiding students in accessing digital learning and employment opportunities.

The state Cabinet, in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, officially approved the increase in the monthly stipend for MBBS and BDS interns. The stipend has been raised from the previous Rs 12,000 to a new amount of Rs 25,000 per month. This latest increase follows a previous revision in 2021, when the monthly stipend was raised from Rs 7,500 to Rs 12,000. The decision comes after MBBS interns from several government medical colleges, including King George’s Medical University (KGMU), held protests on August 22, demanding an increase in their stipends.

With this increase, Uttar Pradesh’s medical intern stipend now stands at Rs 25,000, bringing it closer to the remuneration offered in other states and central government institutions.

Swami Vivekananda Youth Empowerment Scheme: Tablet Distribution

In a separate but related decision, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet also approved the procurement of 25 lakh tablets under the Swami Vivekananda Youth Empowerment Scheme. This initiative aims to equip students with digital learning tools and enhance their access to employment opportunities. The state government has allocated a substantial budget provision of Rs 2,374.60 crore for this tablet distribution scheme in the 2026-27 financial year, underscoring its commitment to digital literacy and youth empowerment.
