The announcements come as the Uttarakhand Police prepares for further recruitment, with approximately 2,500 vacant positions currently existing within the department.
Police Recruitment and Welfare Initiatives
Chief Minister Dhami detailed a series of measures designed to enhance the capabilities and living conditions of the state’s police force. Among the key announcements, the annual budget allocated for the operational requirements of police stations is set to double from ₹4 crore to ₹8 crore. Also, initiatives will be undertaken to upgrade all Police Modern Schools across the state, and transit hostels along with multi-story barracks for police personnel will be constructed in Dehradun.
The police hospital located in Dehradun is also slated for an upgrade. Also, a State Cyber Crime Coordination Centre is currently under construction at an approximate cost of ₹32 crore. To enhance women’s safety, quick response teams have been formed at every police station. CM Dhami also reiterated that ‘Agniveers’ will be given priority in state government jobs, including the Uttarakhand Police.
Acknowledging Sacrifices and Service
During the Police Commemoration Day event, Chief Minister Dhami paid tribute to martyred personnel of the police and paramilitary forces. He noted that over the past year, 154 personnel across the country made the supreme sacrifice while in the line of duty. Since the formation of Uttarakhand, 206 personnel of the state police have laid down their lives.
This year, approximately ₹50 lakh was provided to the families of the deceased from the Police Martyrs’ Fund. An ex-gratia amount of about ₹31 crore has been disbursed so far under the Police Salary Package scheme. In recognition of exemplary service, 319 police personnel have been honoured with various medals and commendations this year. Strengthening Police Infrastructure and Operations

Over the past three years, around ₹500 crore has been sanctioned for police housing, leading to an increase in the police housing satisfaction rate from 18% to 22%, with a target of 30%. In the current financial year, over ₹58 crore has been released for police stations, fire stations, barracks, messes, and other workplaces.
As for personnel, 785 police personnel were promoted this year. Direct recruitment included 1,573 constables in civil police and 370 in PAC.
