Eligibility Criteria and Required Documents

To be eligible for AIBE 22, candidates must possess a valid 3-year or 5-year LLB degree, or a final-year marksheet. Final-year and final-semester LLB students without backlogs are permitted to apply using an undertaking option. While enrollment with a State Bar Council is generally required, law graduates who have not yet enrolled or have surrendered their certificate can also apply, as clarified by the Supreme Court judgment of September 20, 2024.

Required documents for the application include a passport-size photograph, scanned signature, LLB marksheets, and a self-attested photo ID proof. Depending on the candidate’s category, a disability certificate, category certificate, LLB degree certificate (if available), LLM certificate and marksheet (if applicable), and State Bar Council enrolment certificate (if available) may also be required.

Examination Pattern and Fees

The AIBE 22 examination will be conducted offline in a pen-and-paper mode and is an open-book examination, allowing clean bare acts without notes, comments, or handwritten markings. The exam duration is 3 hours, with an additional 20 minutes per hour provided for eligible Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates. It consists of 100 multiple-choice questions, with one mark awarded for each correct answer and no negative marking.

The passing marks are 45% for General and OBC candidates, and 40% for SC, ST, and PwD candidates. The examination covers 19 law subjects, including both new and old criminal-law frameworks (IPC/BNS, CrPC/BNSS, Indian Evidence Act/BSA), and is offered in multiple regional languages besides English and Hindi. Candidates who did not apparent AIBE 20 or AIBE 21 do not need to register again and can log in with their existing credentials.
