BTSC Fisheries Extension Officer recruitment 2026 application opens for 231 posts; apply by 23 October

The Bihar Technical Service Commission (BTSC) has announced the recruitment of 231 Fisheries Extension Officers for regular appointments within the Fisheries Directorate and subordinate offices under the Dairy, Fisheries and Animal Resources Department, Bihar. The official notification, Advertisement No. 28/2026, was released in accordance with General Administration Department letter no. 23436 dated 16 December 2025.

The application window for these positions commenced on 24 September 2026, and eligible candidates can submit their applications online until 23 October 2026. This recruitment drive aims to fill vacancies for the post of Fisheries Extension Officer (Matsya Prasar Padadhikari) at Pay Level 7, with a reported starting basic pay of ₹44,900 per month, on top of applicable allowances.

Application Process and Eligibility Criteria

Prospective candidates are required to apply online through the official BTSC website, btsc.bihar.gov.in. The application period concludes on 23 October 2026, which is also the deadline for fee payment. The application fee is ₹100 for all categories, payable online via debit card, credit card, internet banking, or UPI. Candidates must upload a recent photograph taken within the last three months against a plain white background, ensuring their face and both ears are visible without spectacles glare, along with their signature. No corrections will be permitted after the final submission of the application form.

To be eligible, applicants must possess a four-year Bachelor’s Degree in Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc.) from a Fisheries College under an Agricultural University recognized by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi. The minimum age for applicants is 21 years as on 1 August 2026. Upper age limits vary by category: 37 years for Unreserved Male, 40 years for Unreserved Female, 40 years for BC/EBC (Male & Female), and 42 years for SC/ST (Male & Female). Age relaxations are provided for Persons with Disabilities (10 years), in-service Bihar Government employees with three or more years of continuous regular service (5 years), and Ex-servicemen (3 years plus length of military service, not exceeding 57 years actual age). Only one age relaxation among applicable clauses will be granted to a candidate.

Vacancy Distribution and Reservations

A total of 231 regular vacancies have been announced. Of these, 77 posts are reserved horizontally for women domiciled in Bihar. Special category reservations include three posts for Visually Impaired (VH), two for Hearing Impaired (HH), two for Locomotor (OH), two for Multiple Disabilities/Mental (MH), and four for Grandchildren/great-grandchildren of Freedom Fighters. Reserved-category candidates applying against unreserved posts will not receive reserved-category relaxations for that specific vacancy. The total number of vacancies may be subject to increase or decrease based on further requisitions received by the department up to the last date of application.

Selection Process and Required Documents

The selection process for Fisheries Extension Officers will comprise a Computer Based Test (CBT) weighted at 75 marks and marks awarded for contractual work experience, weighted at 25 marks, making a total of 100 marks. The CBT will consist of 100 objective-type multiple-choice questions, carrying 100 marks, with a duration of two hours. The examination will be conducted in both Hindi and English. A negative marking of 0.25 marks will be applied for each incorrect answer in the CBT, and the minimum qualifying marks for all categories is 30%. If the examination is held in multiple shifts, a normalization process will be applied. The syllabus for the CBT will be published separately on the BTSC website.

Marks for contractual work experience will be awarded at five marks per completed year of satisfactory service on an equivalent contractual post under the Bihar Government or eligible non-private institutions within Bihar, up to a maximum of 25 marks for five years or more of experience. Required documents for application include a Matriculation certificate, B.F.Sc. degree and mark sheets, caste/creamy-layer exclusion/EWS certificate, domicile certificate, disability certificate (if applicable), ex-servicemen certificate (if applicable), and salary payment certificate for work experience. All certificates and mark sheets must be issued on or before 23 October 2026. The selection process will also include Document Verification after the merit list is prepared.
