The National Testing Agency (NTA) has not yet released the official syllabus or notification for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG) 2027 as of October 9, 2026. However, the NTA is reportedly considering significant changes to the exam pattern and subject count for the upcoming examination, which aims to standardize undergraduate admissions and provide equitable opportunities for aspirants across India.

The CUET, introduced in 2022, serves as a national-level entrance examination for admission to over 280 government and private universities. While the official information bulletin for CUET UG 2027 has not been released, the NTA, in collaboration with the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Ministry of Education, is planning to reduce the maximum subject count from five to four subjects.

Expected Syllabus Release and Exam Structure

The NTA is expected to release the syllabus for the CUET UG 2027 examination by December 2026. As of October 5, 2026, no changes to the syllabus have been officially announced. The CUET 2027 syllabus will continue to be based on the Class 12 curriculum. Minor changes in some subjects and major updates in others are possible, considering the syllabi of the past two years. For instance, Indian Economic Development was re-introduced in CUET Economics last year after its removal for the CUET 2025 exam.

The examination mode for CUET UG 2027 will remain a Computer Based Test (CBT). The CUET offers a total of 37 subjects, comprising 13 languages, 23 domain-specific subjects, and one General Aptitude Test. Each test paper will include 50 compulsory objective-type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), with a duration of 60 minutes per paper. Candidates receive 5 marks for each correct answer, and 1 mark is deducted for every incorrect answer, with unattempted questions receiving 0 marks. The maximum marks per paper are 250.

Proposed Changes to CUET UG 2027 Exam Pattern

Discussions are underway regarding several changes to the CUET UG 2027 exam pattern. These proposed modifications aim to simplify the examination process. One key proposal is to administer all selected subjects on a single day for each student, a departure from the current 2-3 exam days. The duration per paper may also be reduced from 60 minutes to 40-45 minutes, with the number of questions per paper decreasing from 50 to 35-40. The overall exam window is proposed to be condensed to 12-15 days, with each student allotted one slot.

The current CUET UG exam pattern (2026) involves 2-3 exam days per student, a 60-minute duration per paper, 50 questions per paper, and a maximum of 5 subjects. The proposed changes to the maximum subject count are still under review by the NTA and UGC and have not yet been finalized. Delhi University, a prominent institution using CUET scores, builds merit for most programs from the best four subject scores, each out of 250.
