TGPSC AEE, SSC JE exam dates clash: students protest in Hyderabad, seek postponement

In short

  • Aspirants gathered outside the TGPSC office in Hyderabad on October 17, 2026, to protest against clashing examination dates.
  • The TGPSC AEE (R&B) exam is scheduled for November 6 and 7, while the SSC JE exam runs from November 2 to 6.
  • Candidates allege they have repeatedly approached the TGPSC without a response regarding the date conflict.
  • The TGPSC Group 2 exam was previously deferred to December 2024 following protests and requests from political figures.
  • The government has stated its intention to announce a job calendar to prevent future competitive examination overlaps.

Students and job aspirants staged a protest outside the Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC) office in Hyderabad on October 17, 2026, demanding the postponement or rescheduling of the TGPSC AEE (R&B) and Staff Selection Commission (SSC) JE examinations. The protest was prompted by the overlapping schedules of the two significant government engineering job examinations, which aspirants claim could force them to miss one of the opportunities.

Police personnel were deployed at the venue to manage law and order as students raised slogans against the commission. This incident marks another instance of student unrest concerning examination scheduling by the TGPSC, following previous large-scale protests that led to the deferment of the TGPSC Group 2 examination.

Overlapping Examination Schedules Spark Protests

The core of the current protest revolves around the conflicting dates for the TGPSC AEE (R&B) and SSC JE examinations. Aspirants highlighted that the overlap limits their ability to appear for both exams, thereby reducing their chances of securing government engineering positions. Candidates stated that they had approached the TGPSC office multiple times to address the issue but had not received a response.

The specific dates for the examinations are as follows:

Examination Dates
TGPSC AEE (R&B) November 6 and 7
SSC JE November 2 to 6

Previous TGPSC Exam Rescheduling

This is not the first time the TGPSC has faced demands for exam rescheduling due to date clashes. The TGPSC Group 2 exam, for which a notification was issued in March 2024 for 783 posts, was originally scheduled for August 7 and 8. However, following large-scale protests by hundreds of candidates at the TSPSC board in Nampally, Hyderabad, the exam was deferred.

The rescheduling of the Group 2 exams to December 2024, with specific dates to be announced later, came after Group 2 job aspirants met with Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Nagarkurnool MP Dr Mallu Ravi. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka had also interacted with Group-II aspirants at the Secretariat on Friday, July 19, 2024, after which the TGPSC released a statement regarding the rescheduling.

Event Date/Period
Notification for 783 Group 2 posts March 2024
Original Group 2 exam dates August 7 and 8
Rescheduled Group 2 exam dates December (dates to be announced later)

Government’s Stance on Recruitments and Future Calendar

The state government has emphasized its focus on recruitments, with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka aiming to fulfill election promises related to job creation. In the last three months, 54,000 job vacancies have been filled in government departments. The government intends to ensure youngsters secure jobs at the earliest.

Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka previously stated that a job calendar would be announced after identifying vacant posts, with competitive examinations to be held without any overlapping. The government also plans to inaugurate Ambedkar Knowledge Centres in every Assembly constituency, offering free online coaching from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
