The original examination routine, issued on June 25, 2026, was partially revised on September 10, 2026, due to by-elections in Rejinagar AC (Murshidabad) and Nandigram AC (Purba Medinipur). This revision has led to the rescheduling of three examinations, impacting the final week of the assessment period.
Revised Examination Schedule and Timings
The WBCHSE Class 12 Semester 3 examinations will primarily run from 11 am to 12:30 pm for most subjects. However, papers for Music and Visual Arts will be held from 11 am to 12 noon. Examination Guidelines and Security Measures
Detailed guidelines concerning invigilation, examination hall restrictions, and the evaluation of OMR answer sheets have been published on the official WBCHSE portal, wbchse.wb.gov.in. A key directive is the strict prohibition of electronic gadgets, including mobile phones and calculators, inside the examination centres. Any student found in possession of an electronic gadget during the examination will face cancellation of their examination and enrolment.
To ensure fair conduct, at least two invigilators will be present in every examination room, maintaining an invigilator-to-student ratio of 1:20. In addition, one council nominee will be appointed for every 20 students at each centre, with nominees required to report by 10 am. Question papers will be available in four languages: Bengali, English, Hindi, and Ol Chiki, and sealed question papers will be opened in front of students in the examination hall. Students will receive OMR answer sheets for the Multiple Choice Questions.
Context of the Semester System and Future Schedule
The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education, established in 1975, introduced the semester system from the 2024-25 academic session. This change aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) and aims to reduce examination pressure while promoting continuous learning. Under this new system, Semester I and II are conducted in Class 11, while Semester III and IV are for Class 12. Semester III focuses on MCQ-based examinations, whereas Semester IV will consist of descriptive examinations.
Looking ahead, the Semester III results are anticipated by the second week of November 2026. Following this, Semester IV Admit Cards are scheduled for release on January 13, 2027. The Semester IV Practical/Project Exams are slated to take place from January 22 to February 13, 2027. In the 2025-26 session, 6,60,260 candidates appeared for the Higher Secondary examination, with 6,45,832 students passing, resulting in an overall pass percentage of 93.72%.
