Several schools and colleges across Delhi have announced changes to their academic schedules and postponed examinations, effective from Friday, October 9, 2026, through Saturday, October 10, 2026. These adjustments are a direct consequence of heightened security measures and anticipated disruptions related to a proposed protest at Jantar Mantar by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Saturday.
The widespread changes affect thousands of students, with institutions opting for online classes, cancelling extracurricular activities, and rescheduling crucial mid-term examinations. The decisions follow advisories from the Delhi Police regarding potential restrictions on metro services and concerns over public order.
Academic Schedule Adjustments in Schools
Multiple schools in the capital have implemented immediate changes to their operations. Sardar Patel Vidyalaya in Lodhi Estate informed parents that students from Classes 6 to 12 would attend classes online on Saturday, October 10, 2026. The school also discontinued its stay-back facility for students on Friday, October 9, 2026, and postponed the inauguration of its Activity Week, originally scheduled for Saturday.
Raghubir Singh Junior Modern School postponed a parent-teacher meeting planned for Saturday, October 10, 2026. Similarly, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Mehta Vidyalaya cancelled sports day practice sessions and enrichment classes for students of Classes 9 to 12, which were scheduled for the same day.
College Examinations Postponed
Colleges have also been impacted, with mid-term examinations being rescheduled. Bharati Vidyapeeth’s College of Engineering in Paschim Vihar postponed its mid-term examinations from Saturday, October 10, 2026, to Monday, October 12, 2026. This decision was made in accordance with directions from the dean of the University School of Information, Communication and Technology (USICT) at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), and the Joint Commissioner of Police, Transport Range, Delhi.
The Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology (MAIT) in Rohini also postponed its mid-term examinations scheduled for Saturday, October 10, 2026, to October 12, 2026. MAIT’s decision followed a communication from the Delhi Police regarding anticipated restrictions on metro services. Department heads at MAIT have been instructed to inform faculty members and students about the revised examination schedule, with students of Bharati Vidyapeeth’s College of Engineering having their examinations on Monday, October 12, 2026, with unchanged timings.
Security Measures and Travel Disruptions
The academic adjustments are part of broader security measures implemented across Delhi in anticipation of the CJP’s ‘Chalo Dilli’ protest. The Delhi Police requested the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to close the entry and exit gates at 57 metro stations from 9 PM on Friday, October 9, 2026, until further notice. This request was made due to concerns that demonstrators could move in an uncontrolled manner towards sensitive locations.
Around 26,000 security personnel from central forces have been deployed in the national capital. Indian Railways has cancelled all mail and express trains scheduled to arrive at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations between 4 AM and 2 PM on Saturday, October 10, 2026. Additionally, the government has ordered a two-day closure of all liquor shops across the capital as a ‘preventive measure for public order’. Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar Namo Bharat stations in Delhi will remain closed from 9 PM on October 9 to 10 PM on October 10, 2026, with passengers advised to plan their journeys accordingly. Train services between Anand Vihar in Delhi and Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh will continue to operate as per schedule without disruption during this period.
Context of the Jantar Mantar Protest
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), created in May 2026 by digital communications strategist Abhijeet Dipke as a political satire, is preparing for its ‘Chalo Dilli’ protest at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, October 10, 2026. The CJP protests are over alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG examination. The Delhi Police reiterated that permission to protest at Jantar Mantar must be sought 10 days in advance and gatherings should not exceed 1,000 people. The CJP formally intimated Delhi Police about its proposed protest. The Supreme Court has taken note of the heavy restrictions and curbs, calling on officials to ‘revisit road closures’.
Separately, the INDIA bloc, led by Congress and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, is scheduled to meet with President Droupadi Murmu at 8 PM on October 9, 2026. The INDIA bloc is also protesting against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The Diocese of Delhi of the Church of North India issued a statement expressing solidarity with students and families affected by alleged irregularities in public examinations.
