Crucial Rule: Why Round 4 is the Final Exit for IIT Aspirants
If you are holding an IIT or IISc seat and are reconsidering your choice, Round 4 is your absolute last chance to withdraw.
Critical Warning: The withdrawal window closes on July 14, 2026, at 5:00 PM. Once Round 5 begins on July 16, you cannot opt out of an IIT seat. If you fail to withdraw by July 14, your seat acceptance fee will forfeit, and you will be blocked from participating in further institutional admission cycles.
A processing deduction of ₹7,000 applies to all voluntary withdrawals. The remaining balance of your Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF) will be refunded.
Understanding Your Next Steps: Freeze, Float, or Slide
Upon checking your allotment, you must choose one of the three options by July 13:
-
Freeze: Select this if you are completely satisfied with your current seat and branch. This locks your option and exits you from subsequent counseling rounds.
-
Float: Use this if you accept the current seat but want to remain in consideration for a higher-preferred course at any other institute in the final round. If no upgrade occurs in Round 5, you retain your Round 4 seat.
-
Slide: Choose this if you accept the seat but want to upgrade to a preferred branch within the exact same institute during the next round.
Note: The Float and Slide options will not be available during Round 5, making Round 4 your last opportunity to exercise flexibility.
Mandatory Online Reporting Requirements
If you are allotted a seat for the first time in Round 4, you must complete online reporting by July 13, 2026 (5:00 PM). Failure to do so will result in immediate cancellation of your allotment.
-
Seat Acceptance Fee: ₹35,000 for General/OBC-NCL/EWS candidates, and ₹15,000 for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
-
Document Upload: Upload legible, clear copies of your class 10 and 12 certificates, category certificates (issued after April 1, 2026, for OBC-NCL/EWS), and a valid medical certificate.
-
Query Responses: Monitor your portal dashboard closely. If verification officers raise any query regarding your documents, you must respond with valid proof before July 14 to save your seat.
