MGU B.A. Chenda 2026: Apply for admission to distance education

Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU), located in Priyadarsini Hills P.O., Kottayam, Kerala, has opened admissions for its Post Graduate Degree Programmes (MGU-CSS) and B.Li.Sc.Ed in affiliated colleges through the Centralised Allotment Process (CAP) 2026. The university is also accepting applications for UG and PG Programmes (Executive) for the Academic Year 2025-2026, the MBA programme of the School of Management and Business Studies (SMBS), and MGU Distance Education for 2026.

This year’s admission cycle aims to speed up the application procedure for postgraduate programmes and guide applicants in selecting suitable courses. The Centralised Allotment Process, first introduced by MGU in 2010, has been instrumental in ensuring transparency and social justice in admissions, addressing previously unfilled seats.

Admission to B.A. Chenda and Distance Education

Mahatma Gandhi University offers a B.A. Chenda program through its Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) for the 2026 admission cycle. This initiative is part of MGU’s broader effort to provide flexible and affordable distance education programs, catering to working professionals seeking career advancement and students facing geographical or financial constraints.

MGU, established in 1983, is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and approved by the Distance Education Bureau (DEB). It is also accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), underscoring its commitment to quality education.

Postgraduate and MBA Admissions

The prospectus for admission to Post Graduate Degree Programmes (MGU-CSS) and B.Li.Sc.Ed in affiliated colleges through the Centralised Allotment Process (CAP) is specifically for the year 2026. Candidates are advised to consult the current prospectus for all relevant admission information, as previous years’ prospectuses are not valid for 2026.

Admission to the MBA programme of the School of Management and Business Studies (SMBS) is determined by a combination of factors: the score obtained in CMAT/CAT/KMAT, performance in a Group Discussion, and a Personal Interview. The weightage for these criteria is set at an 80:10:10 ratio for CMAT/CAT/KMAT score, Group Discussion, and Personal Interview, respectively. Eligibility for MBA admission requires a Bachelor’s Degree Examination from Mahatma Gandhi University or an equivalent degree with at least 50% marks in aggregate, or a Master’s Degree in any subject. For SC/ST candidates, only a pass in the qualifying examination is required for MBA admission. The SMBS offers 60 seats under the All India Open/Merit Quota for MBA, with an additional 12 seats reserved under the International Quota.

Reservation Policies and Special Provisions

Mahatma Gandhi University has implemented several reservation policies to ensure inclusive access to education. An additional 10% of seats, over and above the sanctioned strength, are earmarked for foreign students for each undergraduate programme. International students, excluding those under Government of India sponsored schemes, must submit their applications online through www.ucica.mgu.ac.in by paying an application fee of US$ 100.

Special provisions include the creation of an additional seat in affiliated Arts and Science colleges for students sponsored by the Union Territory of Lakshadweep, and another additional seat for Malayalee students from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Furthermore, 5% of the sanctioned strength in all affiliated institutions is exclusively reserved for candidates with benchmark disability. These candidates require only a pass in the qualifying examination for admission to PG Programmes, provided they have a minimum of 40% disability and submit a ‘Certificate of disability’ issued by the District Medical Board. Two seats over and above the sanctioned strength are created in all courses in affiliated Arts & Science Colleges for Transgender students, who must produce an identity card/certificate issued by the Social Justice Department. Two additional seats are also created for Orphan Children (one male and one female), and an additional seat in affiliated Aided/Government Arts and Science colleges is reserved for children from Government Children’s Homes and institutions functioning under the Juvenile Justice Act. Five additional seats are created for children who have lost both parents due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The upper age limit for applying through the sports quota is 25 years, with specific points awarded for various levels of sports achievements.

University Rankings and Leadership

Mahatma Gandhi University has consistently achieved high rankings in various national and international assessments. MGU was ranked 37th among the top higher education institutions in India and 67th in all categories of institutions in the NIRF 2024 Rankings. Globally, MGU ranks among the top 500 universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) Global Rankings 2026 and holds the 4th position in India in The Asia University Rankings 2026. It was also ranked 81st globally among young universities less than 50 years old in The Young University Rankings 2024. The university stands at position three in the innovation and entrepreneurship ranking by the Union Ministry of Education in Atal Ranking 2021. MGU has been awarded the Chancellor Prize as the Best University in Kerala three times, in 2016, 2018, and 2020.

The university’s leadership includes Prof. C. T. Aravindakumar as the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Bismi Gopalakrishnan as the Registrar, and Dr. Sreejith C. M. as the Controller of Examinations. MGU is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).
