MGU-CSS 2026: Apply for PG & B LiSc Ed admissions; check eligibility now

Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) has released its prospectus for admission to Post Graduate Degree Programmes (MGU-CSS) and B.Li.Sc Ed in affiliated colleges for the 2026 academic cycle. The admissions will be conducted through the Centralised Allotment Process (CAP) 2026, with the university located at Priyadarsini Hills P.O., Kottayam-686 560.

The 2026 prospectus is the only valid document for the current admission cycle, superseding all previous years’ prospectuses. This process aims to simplify the admission procedure and ensure transparency and social justice for all applicants.

Eligibility Criteria for M.A. English Literature

Candidates aspiring for M.A. English Literature at MGU must possess a graduation in English (Model I/II/III) or other faculties such as language and literature, social science, science, or oriental studies. Specific academic requirements vary based on the undergraduate degree model.

For English Language & Literature Model I, candidates need a CGPA of 1.80 out of 4.00 in the Core Group or a CCPA of 4.5 out of 10.00 in the Core Group. Alternatively, 45% marks in main and subsidiary subjects under Part III are accepted. For English Language & Literature Model II, the same CGPA/CCPA criteria apply, or 45% of marks in the Part III subjects (Main + subsidiaries).

Graduates with English Literature & Communication Studies Model III (Double Main) require a CGPA of 1.80 out of 4.00 in the Core Group or a CCPA of 4.5 out of 10.00 in the Core Group. They also need a minimum of 50% marks in Part I English (3 papers) and 45% in Part III subjects. For English Literature, Communication Studies & Journalism Model III (Triple Main), graduates need a CGPA of 1.80 out of 4.00 in the Core Group or a CCPA of 4.5 out of 10.00 in the Core Group, or 45% in Part III subjects.

Other graduates in Language & Literature, Social Science, Science & Oriental Studies must have a CGPA of 2.00 out of 4.00 in six common papers for Part I and a CGPA of 1.80 in the Core Group. Alternatively, a CCPA of 5.00 out of 10.00 in six common papers for Part I and a CCPA of 1.80 in the Core Group is required. A third option for these graduates is 50% marks in Part I English (3 papers) and 45% marks in Part III subjects.

Reservation Policies and Special Categories

Mahatma Gandhi University has implemented several reservation policies to promote inclusivity and social justice in its admission process for 2026. These reservations create additional seats over and above the sanctioned strength in affiliated Arts & Science Colleges for various categories.

Two seats are reserved for transgender candidates in all courses, provided they produce an identity card or certificate issued by the Social Justice Department, as per UO no. 2290/AcA1/2026/MGU dated 12 March 2026. Orphan children also have two seats reserved (one male, one female) in all programmes, as per U.O No.3149/ACA1/2026/MGU dated 08 April 2026. The PM Cares for Children Scheme reserves five seats for children who lost both parents due to the Covid-19 pandemic, as per UO No. 5045/AcA1 /2026/MGU dated 12 May 2026.

Differently-abled candidates are allotted 5% of the sanctioned strength, created over and above, in all affiliated institutions and require only a pass in the qualifying examination for admission to PG Programmes. International students have an additional 10% of seats earmarked for each UG programme and must pay an application fee of US$ 100, except for those under the Government of India sponsored scheme.

For the Sports Quota, one seat is reserved for every 20 seats in M.A., M.Sc., and M.Com Programmes. The upper age limit for applying through the sports quota is 25 years. Points are awarded based on the level of achievement in sports, as detailed below:

Application Process and Key Information

Candidates are advised to thoroughly review the current prospectus to familiarise themselves with all relevant admission information. The official website of Mahatma Gandhi University, www.mgu.ac.in, should be regularly visited for notifications and announcements.

International students, excluding those under the Government of India sponsored scheme, are required to submit their applications online via the admission portal www.ucica.mgu.ac.in and pay the US$ 100 application fee. Students seeking admission under the Nominees category or Malayalee students from Andaman & Nicobar Islands category must apply online and submit a printout of their application to the concerned colleges.

Candidates applying under the Differently Abled category need to submit a “Certificate of disability.” Transgender students should apply online and submit their CAP application number to the colleges concerned. Orphan children seeking admission must apply online and submit a printout of their application to the colleges, along with a certificate from the revenue authorities. Children from Government Children’s Homes and Institutions functioning under the Juvenile Justice Act should apply online and submit their CAP application number to the colleges with a certificate from the Manager. Eligible candidates for the PM Cares for Children Scheme must produce a certificate from the competent authority (DMO/Tahasildar) as proof of their claim. Students applying under the Sports Quota and Cultural Quota should apply online under the non-CAP category, though they can also apply through CAP if they wish to be considered for general allotment.
