MGU CAP 2026: Apply for UG/PG admissions by the last date

Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) has initiated the admission process for its Post Graduate Degree Programmes (MGU-CSS) and B.LiSc.Ed in affiliated colleges for the academic year 2026, and for Undergraduate Programmes (MGU UGP) and Integrated PG Programmes for the academic year 2026-27. These admissions are being conducted through the Centralised Allotment Process (CAP) 2026, aiming to simplify procedures and enhance transparency and social justice.

The Centralised Allotment Process, first introduced for PG programmes in 2010 and for UG programmes in 2010-2011, serves as a single-window system. This system was implemented to address challenges such as unfilled seats and to reduce the time, effort, and expenditure previously required for applicants to visit multiple institutions for application submission and updates. The university, established on October 2, 1983, is located at Priyadarsini Hills P.O., Kottayam-686 560, Kerala, and its affiliated colleges.

Application Process and Eligibility for UG and PG Programmes

For the academic year 2026-27, candidates seeking admission to UG (Honours) Programmes must register online through the website ‘https://cap.mgu.ac.in’ by the last date specified in the admission schedule. Verification of documents for UG admissions will be carried out by the respective colleges at the time of admission. All candidates who secure an allotment are required to exercise the “Acceptance” option in their online application after remitting the prescribed fee. Applicants reporting for admission at colleges with the downloaded allotment memo must ensure the relevant portion is attested by college authorities and retained for future reference.

The prospectus for admission to Post Graduate Degree Programmes (MGU-CSS) and B.LiSc.Ed for 2026 is the only valid document for current admissions; prospectuses issued in previous years are not applicable. MGU also offers a B.A. Chenda program through distance education in 2026. UG Examinations for III Semester CBCSS (2014 to 2016 Admissions Mercy Chance/2013 Admission Last & Final Special Mercy Chance) and III Semester B.Sc. Cyber Forensic (2018 Admission Reappearance/ 2014 to 2017 Admissions Mercy Chance) commenced on 28 September 2026.

Reservation Policies and Special Categories

Mahatma Gandhi University has implemented various reservation policies across its programmes to ensure social justice and inclusivity. These include provisions for international students, candidates with benchmark disabilities, transgender students, orphan children, and those sponsored by specific Union Territories or affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The university has also made provisions for students from Government Children’s Homes and Institutions functioning under the Juvenile Justice Act.

For international students, an additional 10% of seats, over and above the sanctioned strength, are earmarked for each UG programme. Their admission process is coordinated by the University Center for International Co-operation (UCIC) through the International Students Admission Committee (ISAC). International students, excluding those under the Government of India sponsored scheme, are required to submit their applications online via www.ucica.mgu.ac.in and pay an application fee of US$ 100 (equivalent Indian Rupees). Candidates with benchmark disability are eligible for 5% of seats over and above the sanctioned strength in all affiliated institutions and require only a pass in the qualifying examination for admission to PG Programmes. Two seats are created over and above the sanctioned strength in all courses in affiliated Arts & Science Colleges exclusively for admitting Transgender students, who must produce an identity card/certificate issued by the Social Justice Department. Similarly, two additional seats (one male, one female) are reserved for Orphan Children, and an additional seat is created for children from Government Children’s Home and Institutions functioning as per the Juvenile Justice Act. Furthermore, five seats are created over and above the sanctioned strength for children who have lost both parents due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sports Quota and Special Nominations

The university also maintains a sports quota for admissions, with an upper age limit of 25 years for applicants. For M.A., M.Sc., and M.Com Programmes, one seat is reserved for every 20 seats under the Sports Quota, with permission for interchangeability. Specific points are awarded for achievements in various sporting events, ranging from representing India in world championships to participation in national-level competitions.

Additionally, an additional seat is created in affiliated Arts and Science colleges for students sponsored by the Union Territory of Lakshadweep. Another additional seat for each programme in affiliated Arts and Science colleges is created for Malayalee students from Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Students seeking admission under Nominee (Lakshadweep/Andaman & Nicobar) or Orphan Children categories should first apply online and then submit the printout of the online application to the colleges concerned, along with relevant certificates. Transgender students should apply online and submit the CAP application number to the colleges concerned, producing their identity card/certificate from the Social Justice Department. Children from Government Children’s Home and Institutions functioning as per the Juvenile Justice Act should apply online and submit the CAP application number to the colleges concerned with a certificate from the Manager of the Home/Institution. Candidates under the PM Cares for Children Scheme should produce a certificate from the competent authority (DMO/Tahasildar) in proof of their claim.
