NEET PG 2026 result out: merit list by September 30 for 2.65 lakh candidates

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) announced the NEET PG 2026 result on September 24, 2026, on its official portal, natboard.edu.in. This result is crucial for admissions to MD, MS, DNB, and Diploma courses across medical colleges in India for the upcoming academic session.

The examination, which saw approximately 2,65,980 candidates appear, was initially conducted on August 30, 2026, with a re-examination held on September 5, 2026, for candidates affected by disruptions at Jaipur centers. The result PDF includes essential details such as the candidate’s name, roll number, category, date of birth, total marks scored, percentile score, All India Rank (AIR), and the NEET PG cut-off score.

NEET PG 2026 Result and Merit List Schedule

While the results have been released, the NEET PG 2026 merit list is slated for declaration by September 30, 2026. The NBEMS helpdesk has also indicated that the answer key and candidate response sheet are expected to be released soon on natboard.edu.in or nbe.edu.in, prior to the final merit list.

The introduction of answer keys for NEET PG began in 2025, following a Supreme Court order aimed at enhancing transparency in the national medical postgraduate entrance examination. Candidates will be able to access question ID numbers, correct answers, and their marked responses through their candidate login once these are released.

Examination Structure and Marking Scheme

The NEET PG 2026 examination was an objective-type, computer-based test with a total of 200 questions, carrying a maximum of 800 marks. The exam duration was 3 hours and 30 minutes (210 minutes). The marking scheme awards 4 marks for each correct objective response, while 1 mark is deducted for every wrong answer. Unattempted questions receive 0 marks.

The exam was divided into three parts covering Pre-Clinical, Para-Clinical, and Clinical subjects, each contributing to the overall score. The result will be accepted by colleges for one academic session only, and NBEMS maintains a strict policy against re-evaluation, re-checking, or re-totaling of marks.

Cut-Off Scores and Post-Result Procedures

The NEET PG 2026 result will also display the cut-off score obtained against the predetermined percentile cut-off. For the General / EWS category, the expected cut-off is the 50th percentile, corresponding to approximately 276 marks out of 800. For General PwBD candidates, the 45th percentile (around 255 marks) is expected, and for SC / ST / OBC categories, the 40th percentile (approximately 235 marks) is anticipated.

Candidates who meet the minimum percentile and secure a place on the official merit roster will proceed to the seat allocation and counselling rounds, which are jointly overseen by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and respective state medical boards. The NEET-SS 2025 qualifying marks were recently reduced on September 22, leading to speculation regarding potential adjustments to NEET PG 2026 qualifying marks if deemed necessary.

1. Candidates must check the official NBEMS website and NEET PG section for the answer key notification.
2. Candidates should download their response sheet and provisional answer key and check recorded responses against official answers.
3. Candidates can submit objections if they find any errors in the NEET PG 2026 Answer Key through the official website, backed by standard reference sources or authentic proof.
4. Candidates need to log in with their User ID and Password to access the objection portal, select the question ID, upload documentary proof, and pay the objection fee.
5. Candidates must download the acknowledgment receipt for future reference after submitting the objection form.
6. Candidates who clear the required minimum percentile and secure a place on the official merit roster will move forward to the seat allocation and counselling rounds.
