TGPSC Assistant Professor recruitment: notification soon for 544 posts

The Telangana State Public Service Commission (TGPSC) is preparing to issue a notification for 544 posts, including Assistant Professor/Lecturer, Librarian, and Physical Director roles in government degree colleges. This recruitment drive aims to address existing vacancies and reduce the reliance on guest and contract faculty across the state’s 150 government degree colleges.

Financial department approval has been secured for these 544 vacancies, and the notification is anticipated to be released shortly under the revised GO-4 selection rules. This will be the first major recruitment for these positions since appointments were made in 2013.

Details of the Vacancies and Previous Recruitment Attempts

Out of the 544 approved posts, 491 are designated for Assistant Professor/Lecturer, 24 for Librarian, and 29 for Physical Director. The last recruitment drive for degree college lecturer posts in undivided Telangana took place in 2013. The Collegiate Education Department has identified a need to fill at least 2,000 posts and has proposed filling an additional 1,000 vacancies beyond the currently approved 544.

A previous notification for 544 posts was issued in December 2022 but was after that stalled. This stalling was attributed to objections concerning the non-adherence to University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines and disputes regarding the eligibility criteria for Physical Director posts.

Revised Selection Process Under Go-4

The upcoming recruitment will roll out a new selection process as outlined in GO-4, issued on 12 February 2026. This revised framework allocates marks across three components: academic merit, a written examination, and an interview. This differs from the old selection process, which included only a written exam and an interview.

Under the new GO-4 rules, 50 marks will be awarded for academic merit, 40 marks for a written examination, and 10 marks for an interview. The TGPSC is finalizing these recruitment rules based on the new government order for teaching positions in higher education.

Current Faculty Strength and Departmental Needs

Telangana currently has 150 government degree colleges, with 4,098 sanctioned posts for faculty, librarians, and physical directors. As of 24 September 2026, there are 1,500 regular teachers, approximately 2,000 guest faculty, and about 400 contract faculty working in these institutions. The increase in government degree colleges from 132 to 150 in the last three years has contributed to a significant number of vacancies.

The Collegiate Education Department has proposed filling an additional 1,000 vacancies beyond the currently approved 544 posts, indicating a broader need for faculty across the state’s higher education system. The TGPSC website, websitenew.tgpsc.gov.in, currently displays sections for ‘Notifications 2026 RECRUITMENT POST ASSISTANT RECRUITMENT POST’ and ‘Notifications 2026’ under Direct Recruitment, with all rights reserved for 2026.
