FMGE October 2026 registration ends tomorrow, September 25; apply

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) is set to close the registration window for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) October 2026 session tomorrow, September 25, 2026, at 11:55 PM. Aspiring candidates, including Indian citizens and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) with primary medical qualifications from institutions outside India, must complete their online applications by the deadline to be eligible for the mandatory screening test.

The FMGE is a crucial examination for those who wish to obtain provisional or permanent registration with the Medical Council of India or any State Medical Council to practice medicine in India, as per the provisions of section 13 of the Screening Test Regulations 2002. This October session marks an additional opportunity for foreign medical graduates this year, following concerns raised by students after the June 2026 session.

Application Process and Fees

Candidates are required to submit their applications online through the official NBEMS website, nbe.edu.in. The process involves registering to generate a User ID/Application ID and password, filling out the application form, uploading necessary documents such as a photograph, scanned signature, and thumb impression, selecting an examination city, and paying the prescribed fee. Applicants must review all details before final submission.

The examination fee for FMGE October 2026 is Rs 4,650. This amount includes a base fee of Rs 3,940.68 and an 18% Goods and Services Tax (GST) of Rs 709.32. NBEMS uses Aadhaar-based authentication for identity verification during the application process, though it does not store or retain the Aadhaar Number. only one application form can be submitted; multiple applications may result in cancellation and forfeiture of fees.

Eligibility and Examination Structure

To be eligible for the FMGE October 2026 session, applicants must be Indian citizens or OCIs and possess a primary medical qualification equivalent to an MBBS in India. This qualification must have been awarded by a recognized university and verified by the Indian embassy in the respective country. Also, candidates must have officially qualified the final examination for their primary medical qualification on or before August 31, 2026. Students who have completed their graduation in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada are exempt from the FMGE.

The FMGE examination is a computer-based test (CBT) comprising 300 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), divided equally into two parts of 150 questions each. Both the morning session (9:00 AM to 11:30 AM) and the afternoon session (2:00 PM to 4:30 PM) are 2.5 hours long. Each 150-question session is further divided into three time-bound sections (A, B & C), with 50 minutes allocated to complete 50 questions per section. There is no negative marking in the FMGE exam. To clear the FMGE, a candidate must score a minimum of 150 out of 300, which is 50%.

Key Dates and Rectification Windows

The registration window, which opened on September 11, 2026, will close tomorrow. Following the application period, NBEMS has scheduled several windows for candidates to rectify any deficiencies in their submissions. An edit window for all payment-successful applications, excluding critical details like Name, Nationality, Email, Aadhaar, Mobile number, and Test City, is scheduled from September 29, 2026, to September 30, 2026. A selective edit window to rectify deficient or incorrect images (photograph, signature, thumb impression) will be available from October 3, 2026, to October 19, 2026. Also, an opportunity to rectify deficiencies related to uploaded documents, such as the Primary Medical Qualification Certificate or Eligibility Certificate, is available through an online portal until October 21, 2026, 11:55 PM.

Test City Information will be provided to applicants on October 20, 2026, with admit cards scheduled for issuance from October 27, 2026. The FMGE October 2026 examination is slated for October 31, 2026, and the results are scheduled to be declared by November 30, 2026. This additional FMGE attempt for the year was scheduled after students who appeared for the June session demanded an earlier opportunity to take the screening test. From 2026 onwards, NBEMS has agreed to conduct the FMGE examination thrice a year, in December/January, April/May, and August/September, with this October 31, 2026, examination being an additional one that was earlier scheduled for January 9, 2027.
