CUCET 2026 eligibility criteria released: phase-II registration ends 30 September

Chandigarh University has officially released the eligibility criteria for the Chandigarh University Common Entrance Test (CUCET) 2026, outlining the academic requirements for admission to its diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The criteria are crucial for candidates seeking to enrol and access scholarships through the CUCET 2026 examination.

Prospective students are advised to review these requirements carefully before proceeding with registration, as incorrect or ineligible applications will be rejected. The university has also announced that the registration window for CUCET 2026 Phase-II will close on 30 September 2026.

CUCET 2026 Academic and General Eligibility Requirements

The CUCET 2026 eligibility criteria specify important factors such as the qualifying examination, minimum required marks, and nationality. There is no age limit for CUCET 2026. While Indian nationality is generally expected, candidates of other nationalities may also apply if they meet the stipulated eligibility conditions. Those awaiting their final Board or semester results are permitted to apply provisionally.

For undergraduate (UG) courses, applicants must have passed or be appearing in their 12th standard qualifying examination or its equivalent from a recognised board. Postgraduate (PG) course applicants must possess a relevant undergraduate degree. Chandigarh University adheres to Government of India reservation norms for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates, who must provide valid supporting certificates to claim benefits.

Course-Specific Academic Requirements for CUCET 2026

The minimum aggregate marks and subject combinations vary across different courses. For most Bachelor of Engineering (BE) programmes, candidates need 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, along with one of Chemistry, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Biology, Informatics Practice, or Information Technology, with at least 50% marks in aggregate. However, BE Computer Science and Engineering requires a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in 10+2 with the same subject combination.

Other specific course requirements include 55% aggregate marks in 12th standard for BBA+LL.B, and 50% aggregate marks in higher secondary education with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Zoology & Botany for B.Sc (Hons) Medical. For postgraduate courses, MBA candidates need a UG degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks, while M.E (Computer Science & Engineering) requires a B.E./B.Tech. in CSE/IT/ECE/CS or equivalent with at least 55% marks. LL.M applicants must have qualified LLB with a minimum of 50% marks.

CUCET 2026 Exam Exemption and Scholarship Opportunities

Candidates who have secured 90% or more marks in their qualifying examination or achieved a rank up to 50,000 in JEE will be exempted from appearing in the CUCET 2026 examination. CUCET serves as an entrance-cum-scholarship test, offering tuition fee waivers of up to 100% based on performance.

The CUCET exam typically covers Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology, English, and General Aptitude. The university conducts CUCET in multiple phases annually. Chandigarh University has also shown an upward trajectory in global rankings, improving its position from #575 in the QS World University Rankings 2026 to #526 in the QS World University Rankings 2027.
