The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has activated a final selective edit window for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) October 2026. This window, which opened on October 3, 2026, allows candidates to correct deficient photographs, signatures, and thumb impressions in their application forms. The deadline for these corrections is October 19, 2026.

This measure is intended to ensure that all applicants have valid documentation, thereby preventing the rejection of their registration. Candidates affected by image-related deficiencies can access the correction portal through the official NBEMS websites, natboard.edu.in or nbe.edu.in. The FMGE is a mandatory screening test for Indian citizens and Overseas Citizens of India who have obtained their medical degrees from institutions outside India.

Rectifying Application Deficiencies and Key Deadlines

The current selective edit window specifically addresses issues with uploaded images. This follows a primary application correction window for FMGE October 2026, which was active from September 29 to September 30, 2026, allowing edits to fields such as Father’s Name, Mother’s Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Category, and address details. Non-editable fields include the candidate’s name, nationality, email ID, mobile number, Aadhaar details, and test city.

Beyond image corrections, candidates are also required to submit all supporting certificates, including primary medical qualification completion certificates, translation attestations, and National Medical Commission (NMC) Eligibility Certificates, by October 21, 2026, at 11:55 PM. Documents issued in foreign languages must be accompanied by an official English translation certified by the relevant authority or a foreign diplomatic embassy. The NBEMS will allot test cities on October 20, 2026, and admit cards are expected to be released on October 27, 2026.

Examination Structure and Eligibility Criteria

The FMGE October 2026 exam is scheduled for October 31, 2026, and will be conducted as a computer-based test. The examination is an objective type test featuring multiple-choice questions that cover the MBBS curriculum, split across two papers. There is no negative marking for incorrect answers. To qualify, a candidate must achieve at least 50 percent of the total marks. The exam is divided into two sessions, each lasting two hours and thirty minutes, both conducted on the same day.

The FMGE is a screening examination for Indian citizens and Overseas Citizens of India who have completed their MBBS or an equivalent medical degree from a college outside India. Candidates who obtained their primary medical qualification abroad on or after March 15, 2002, are required to clear the FMGE to register with the National Medical Commission. The application fee for FMGE October 2026 was ₹5,250, along with 18 percent GST. Registration for the examination commenced on September 11, 2026, and concluded on September 25, 2026. The result for FMGE October 2026 is expected to be declared by November 30, 2026.

Image Specifications and Identity Verification

Candidates making corrections during this window must adhere to specific guidelines for image uploads. Passport photos must be taken against a plain white background, showing a full face and a neutral expression, without tinted or glare glasses. Signatures must be signed with a black or dark blue pen on plain white paper. Left thumb impressions should be clear prints taken on plain white paper using a blue or black ink pad, without smudging.

NBEMS uses Aadhaar-based authentication for identity verification, in accordance with the Aadhaar Act, 2016. Aadhaar information, once submitted in the ‘Identification details’ tab, cannot be modified or updated at any stage or in the edit window. NBEMS has stated that it does not store or retain the Aadhaar Number of candidates for authentication purposes. The previous session of the FMGE was conducted on June 28, 2026, and NBEMS will now conduct the FMGE (Screening Test) three times a year.
