HPPSC Medical Officer recruitment 2026 out for 228 posts, apply by 16 October

The Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) commenced the online application process today, 19 September 2026, for the recruitment of 228 Medical Officer (General Wing) (Job Trainee), Group-A posts. This recruitment drive aims to fill vacancies within the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Himachal Pradesh, as per Advertisement No. 62/9-2026.

Prospective candidates have until 16 October 2026, 11:59 PM, to submit their applications and pay the examination fee through the official HPPSC website, hppsc.hp.gov.in. The recruitment is governed by the scheme for engagement of Job Trainees on a fixed amount in State Government departments, which was issued via a Department of Personnel notification dated 19th July, 2025.

Vacancy Details and Eligibility Criteria

A total of 228 Medical Officer (General Wing) (Job Trainee) posts have been announced. The vacancies are distributed across various categories, including 64 for Unreserved (UR), 24 for UR (Ortho Physically Handicapped), 53 for UR (Ex-Servicemen of HP), and 15 for EWS of HP, among others. Reservation benefits are exclusively available to bonafide residents of Himachal Pradesh, with candidates from other states applying under reserved categories being treated as General category.

To be eligible, candidates must possess a recognized medical qualification listed in the First or Second Schedule or Part-II of the Third Schedule of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956. Completion of a compulsory rotating internship is also a mandatory requirement. The age limit for applicants is set between 18 and 45 years as on 1 January 2026, with a 5-year age relaxation applicable for bonafide SC, ST, OBC, Wards of Freedom Fighters, and Persons with Disabilities of Himachal Pradesh.

Application Process and Fee Structure

All candidates are required to pay a uniform application fee of ₹600, irrespective of their category or gender. This fee must be paid online using Debit Card, Credit Card, UPI, or other online digital payment methods. The HPPSC has stated that the examination fee, once paid, will not be refunded or adjusted under any circumstances.

The online application portal became active on 19 September 2026. Applicants are advised to complete their submissions well before the deadline of 16 October 2026, 11:59 PM, to avoid any last-minute technical issues. The official portal for application is hppsc.hp.gov.in.

Selection Procedure and Emoluments

The selection process for the Medical Officer (General Wing) (Job Trainee) posts comprises a two-stage evaluation: a Screening Test/Subject Aptitude Test and a Personality Test. Paper-I, the Screening Test, is an objective-type examination of one hour duration, carrying 100 marks, and includes negative marking. For every incorrect answer in the objective-type screening tests, one-fourth (0.25) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted.

Paper-II, the Subject Aptitude Test (SAT), is a descriptive test lasting three hours and carrying a total of 120 marks. Following these tests, a Personality Test will be conducted at the Commission’s office in Shimla, carrying 30 marks. The final ranking and selection will be determined by the combined scores from the SAT (120 marks) and the Personality Test (30 marks). Minimum qualifying marks in SAT are 45% for the General category and 40% for Reserved categories. For the Personality Test, General category candidates must secure at least 40% (12 marks), while Reserved category candidates need 30% (9 marks).

Successful candidates engaged as Job Trainees will receive fixed emoluments of ₹34,000 per month, as per the established scheme for such engagements in State Government departments.
