The Ladakh administration, through its Health and Medical Education Department, issued revised guidelines for admission to MBBS and BDS seats under the Central pool on September 22, 2026. These new guidelines, approved by Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, introduce a single merit list system for the academic year 2026-27.
The changes follow the recent formation of seven new districts in the Union Territory and aim to smooth out the admission process. The previous system, implemented in 2021, involved separate categories based on reserved/unreserved status, Leh/Kargil districts, and male/female candidates, which has now been discontinued.
Changes to the Admission Process
The Ladakh administration has decided to amend its existing guidelines, moving away from the previous system of separate categories and rosters. Under the new guidelines, a single merit list will be maintained for admission to Central pool MBBS/BDS seats. This list will be compiled irrespective of the candidate’s domicile district, sex, or reserved/unreserved status.
Admission to the allotted medical and dental colleges will be strictly based on NEET merit/ranking and the choices exercised by eligible candidates. This marks a shift from the 2021 system, which considered candidates under various categories, to a more unified selection process.
Central Pool Seat Allocation for 2026-27
For the academic year 2026-27, the Central government has allotted a total of seven MBBS and two BDS seats to Ladakh under the Central pool. These seats are distributed across various medical and dental colleges in different states.
The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare had previously allocated seven MBBS and two BDS seats to Ladakh for the academic session 2025-26 from the Central Pool, as per an allocation letter dated July 31, 2025. A 5% reservation for Physically Handicapped students of the State/UT is applicable for the 2025-26 academic session.

Application and Eligibility Requirements
Eligible candidates with a valid NEET ranking are required to apply for the Central pool MBBS/BDS seats through the official Ladakh NIC portal. The application window for these seats will be open for a period of seven days from the announcement of the new guidelines. For reference, the application for Ladakh Central Pool Medical Seats for a previous cycle was open from August 31, 2024, with a last date of September 10, 2024.
Eligibility extends to children of permanent residents, State/UT government employees, Central/other State/UT government employees on deputation, and Central/other State/UT government employees posted in the State/UT. Selected students are mandated to execute a bond undertaking to serve in their respective State/UT for a minimum period of five years after completing their graduation.
