NEET UG 2026-27: 106 candidates ineligible for NRI seats, web options open

Dr. N.T.R. University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS), Vijayawada, today, September 27, 2026, published a list of 106 candidates declared ineligible for Non-Resident Indian (NRI) category seats under the Management Quota for MBBS and BDS courses in the 2026-27 admission cycle. This declaration follows a failure in document verification for these candidates.

The university had issued a notice on September 13, 2026, providing a deadline of 5:00 PM on September 26, 2026, for candidates to re-upload necessary documents. The Final Merit Position list was displayed on September 27, 2026, and web options for Phase-I MBBS counselling for NRI category seats opened at 6:00 PM on the same day, to close at 5:00 PM on September 28, 2026.

Reasons for Ineligibility

The primary reason for the ineligibility of these 106 candidates is the failure to provide required documents or the submission of documents that did not meet NRI eligibility standards. Common issues identified include missing NRI proof, such as a passport, visa, or foreign residence certificate, incomplete educational certificates, incorrect category certificate formats, or documents that did not clearly establish NRI status.

According to NTRUHS, candidates were advised to check their login for specific remarks detailing what was missing or incorrect in their submissions. The NEET UG 2026 scores of the ineligible candidates range from 426 (rank 214,058) down to 184 (rank 1,153,598). Each entry on the list includes the candidate’s registration ID, NEET roll number, rank, score, name, date of birth, gender, category, and area of residence.

NRI and NRI Lapsed Category Provisions

NTRUHS has clarified that this initial declaration of ineligibility is not a final rejection. The university provided a second chance for candidates to upload missing or deficient documents to restore their eligibility before Phase-I counselling commenced. This arrangement is a one-time exception for the 2026-27 academic year, provided due to delays in the release of the Management Quota NRI Category counselling procedure by the government.

Candidates found eligible for the NRI Category after document verification will be considered for NRI Category seats only. Those found ineligible for the NRI Category due to non-submission of required documents may be considered for NRI Lapsed Category seats in Phase-III (Mop-Up) or subsequent counselling phases, provided they re-upload a Notarized Affidavit. The Government of Andhra Pradesh, through G.O.Ms.134 & 135, HM & FW Dept., dated September 11, 2026, stated that NRI quota seats remaining vacant after exhausting choices from all NRI applicants would be converted to NRI lapsed seats in later phases.

Counselling Schedule and Seat Matrix

The web options for Phase-I MBBS counselling for NRI category seats are currently open. Candidates who are eligible for NRI seats and whose names appear in the Final Merit Position list displayed on September 27, 2026, must exercise their college preferences online within the stipulated timeframe. A total of 727 NRI seats are available across various institutions in Andhra Pradesh for the 2026-27 academic year.

The distribution of these seats includes 136 in government colleges, 546 in private non-minority colleges, and 45 in private minority colleges and Sri Padmavathi Medical College for Women (under SVIMS) combined. The application fee for candidates who could not register earlier is Rs. 31,000/-, which includes an Rs. 11,000/- fee and an Rs. 20,000/- late fee. The university fee for Competent Authority Quota is ₹12,600.

Eligibility Criteria and Required Documents

To be eligible for admission, candidates must have completed 17 years of age by December 31, 2026. They must also have passed Intermediate (10+2) or an equivalent examination with not less than 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology) / Bio-technology, or 40% marks for OBC/BC/SC/ST categories.

NRI eligibility criteria encompass actual NRI candidates, foreign students/OCI card holders (registered on or after March 4, 2021, eligible only for NRI seats), and children/blood relatives of NRIs. The NRI relative must ordinarily reside abroad and provide evidence of having looked after the student as a guardian.
