IIT Guwahati MTech Spot Round Admission 2026 Announced for COAP Candidates: Check Dates & Eligibility
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has officially announced the schedule for its MTech Spot Round Admission 2026. This spot round is a crucial final opportunity for candidates who participated in the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) 2026 but have not yet secured or accepted an MTech seat.
If you are still looking for a seat at IIT Guwahati, you must act quickly. The registration window is short, and the entire selection process will move rapidly.
With the scheduled COAP Round 10 concluding recently on July 13, 2026, the institute is opening this spot round to fill any remaining vacant seats across its postgraduate engineering programs.
Important Dates to Remember
Spot Round Registration
- July 15 to July 16, 2026
- Candidates must register their willingness to participate in the spot round on the official IIT Guwahati MTech admission portal.
Who is Eligible for the IIT Guwahati Spot Round?
To participate in this spot round, you must meet the following eligibility conditions:
-
Prior Application: You must have already applied to IIT Guwahati’s MTech program and been shortlisted during the regular admission cycles.
-
No Active Freeze: You must not have selected the “Accept and Freeze” option for any seat allotted through COAP 2026 at any participating institute.
-
GATE Qualification: You must have a valid GATE score (from 2024, 2025, or 2026).
Please Note: If you have already accepted and frozen an offer at another IIT or institute through COAP 2026, you are ineligible to participate in this spot round. The aim of this round is to fill vacant seats with deserving candidates who remain unplaced.
Step-by-Step Spot Round Admission Process
The spot round process will be conducted entirely online. Here is how you can participate:
Step 1: Submit Your Willingness (Registration)
Log in to the IIT Guwahati MTech admission portal between July 15 and July 16, 2026, to register your willingness to participate. This step is mandatory; if you do not register during this window, you will not be considered for seat allotment.
Step 2: Wait for Departmental Communication
Once registration closes, the institute will group the registered candidates into batches based on their GATE merit rank. The respective departments, schools, or centers will then email you the details, including the online meeting link and your specific allotment schedule.
Step 3: Attend the Online Meeting
On July 17 and 18, 2026, you must attend the online meeting conducted by your respective department. During this meeting, seats will be offered dynamically based on vacancies and merit.
Step 4: Accept and Pay Immediately
If you are offered a seat and decide to accept it, you must pay the seat booking fee immediately. Failing to pay within the specified timeframe during the meeting will result in the seat being passed to the next candidate on the merit list.
Key Rules to Keep in Mind
-
Preferences are Locked: Seats will be allotted based on your original specialization preferences submitted during your initial application. You will not be allowed to change your branch or specialization preferences during the spot round.
-
Direct Offers: Because the spot round is highly dynamic, decisions must be made in real-time. Make sure you have your payment details and essential academic documents ready during the online session.
