CLAT 2027 registration open: apply by October 31 for UG, PG law courses

The Consortium of National Law Universities has released the eligibility criteria and important dates for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2027, defining the requirements for candidates seeking admission to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law courses across India. Registrations for CLAT 2027 commenced on August 3, 2026, with the final application deadline set for October 31, 2026.

The national-level examination, conducted once a year, is scheduled for December 6, 2026, a Sunday. The CLAT exam is administered in a pen-and-paper (offline) mode and has a duration of 120 minutes. The Consortium, which defines each component of the CLAT eligibility, has removed the upper age limit for both UG and PG programmes, a policy that promotes diversity and lifelong learning within law universities.

CLAT 2027 Eligibility for Undergraduate Programmes

For the CLAT UG Programme, candidates are required to have cleared Class 12. A minimum aggregate of 45% is mandated for General, OBC, PwD, NRI, PIO, and OCI categories, while SC and ST categories require a minimum of 40% aggregate marks. Candidates who are appearing for their Class 12 board examinations in March/April 2027 are also eligible to apply for CLAT 2027 UG. The nationality requirement for CLAT UG is Indian, OCI, PIO, or NRI. There is no upper or specific lower age limit for candidates appearing for the CLAT UG exam.

CLAT 2027 Eligibility for Postgraduate Programmes

Candidates applying for the CLAT PG Programme must possess an LLB or an equivalent degree. Those belonging to General, OBC, PwD, NRI, PIO, and OCI categories need a minimum aggregate of 50%, while SC and ST categories require a minimum of 45% aggregate marks. Students appearing for the final year examination of their qualifying degree in 2027 are eligible to apply for CLAT PG. Similar to the UG programme, there is no upper or specific lower age limit for CLAT PG candidates. The nationality requirement for CLAT PG is Indian, OCI, PIO, or NRI.

Application Fees and Tie-Breaking Rules

The application fee for CLAT 2027 is INR 4,000 for General, OBC, PwD, NRI, and OCI candidates. A reduced fee of INR 3,500 applies to SC, ST, PwD, and BPL candidates. In the event of a tie in CLAT UG scores, higher marks in the Legal Aptitude section will be preferred, followed by higher age, and then a computerized draw of lots. For CLAT PG scores, higher age is preferred in case of a tie, followed by a computerized draw of lots.

Key Dates for CLAT 2027

The CLAT 2027 Notification Announcement was made on July 22, 2026. Following the examination on December 6, 2026, the provisional answer key is expected to be released between December 7 and 8, 2026. The final results for CLAT 2027 are anticipated around December 16, 2026. Candidates appearing for qualifying examinations must produce evidence of passing at the time of admission.
