IIT Madras is set to open the application form correction window for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 on October 14, 2026. This seven-day window, accessible via the GOAPS portal at gate2027.iitm.ac.in, will allow candidates who have already submitted their applications to rectify errors until October 21, 2026.

The correction facility is provided to address inaccuracies in submitted forms, particularly after the application scrutiny process by IIT Madras, which checks uploaded documents and entered details. Applications flagged as ‘defective’ due to mistakes will prompt notifications to candidates via email or SMS/WhatsApp.

Editable Fields and Required Documents

Candidates will be able to modify several particulars during the correction window. These include exam cities, gender, name, category, PwD status, address details of parents or guardians, college name, location, roll number, registration number, exam paper, and date of birth. For changes to a candidate’s name, a name change document in PDF format, sized between 10 to 600 kb, must be uploaded. To correct the date of birth, candidates are required to submit their 10th marksheet.

However, certain critical fields are permanently locked after the initial submission of the application form. These locked fields include the full name, date of birth, gender, and registered email address. This emphasizes the importance of accuracy during the initial registration phase.

Correction Fees and Payment Structure

A correction fee may be applicable for certain types of changes made during the rectification window. Changes that result in an increase in the application fee, such as altering a category from concessional to General or adding a second exam paper, will require candidates to pay the difference. Conversely, changes that do not affect the fee, such as updating exam city preferences or re-uploading a photograph, may be permitted without an additional charge. application fees, once paid, are non-refundable.

For specific modifications, IIT Madras has outlined a fee structure. For instance, changing an existing paper or adding a second paper incurs a fee of INR 500. Changes related to gender or category can also attract fees, with some changes costing INR 1250 (INR 500 + INR 750).

Application Process and Key Dates

To make corrections, candidates must log into the GOAPS portal using their GATE enrolment ID and password. After accessing the dashboard, they should click on the correction link or edit application form, select the details they wish to change, pay any requisite fee, and then submit the form. Candidates are advised to download the revised GATE exam form for future reference.

The GATE 2027 Information Brochure was released on July 20, 2026, with registrations commencing on September 2, 2026. The last date to register without a late fee was September 27, 2026, and with a late fee was October 5, 2026. DigiLocker registration is mandatory for all Indian Nationals applying for GATE 2027. The GATE 2027 examinations are scheduled for February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21, 2027, with results expected on March 19, 2027.
