JoSAA 2026 Counselling Round 5 Live Updates: Seat Allotment and Ranks Released

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) has officially released the Round 5 seat allotment results today, July 16, 2026. This is the fifth and final round of counselling for candidates seeking admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). For the NIT+ system—which includes National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs)—this round marks the conclusion of the regular JoSAA rounds before vacant seats are moved to the CSAB counselling process.

Candidates can now log in to the official JoSAA portal at josaa.nic.in using their JEE Main application number or JEE Advanced roll number and password to view their allotment status. Along with the allotment results, JoSAA has also published the highly anticipated Round 5 Opening and Closing Ranks (cutoffs) for all participating institutions.

Key Dates and Deadlines for Round 5

Because Round 5 is the final round for IIT admissions, candidates must strictly follow the schedule to avoid losing their seats. The schedule for the final phase of online reporting is detailed below:

Understanding the Opening and Closing Ranks

The opening and closing ranks represent the competitive boundaries for admission. The Opening Rank is the highest rank (closest to 1) that secures a seat in a specific branch, while the Closing Rank is the last rank accepted into that program.

Data trends from Round 5 show that cutoffs for premium branches, particularly Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), remained highly competitive.

IIT Admission Trends

For the 23 IITs, Round 5 serves as the absolute final cutoff. In earlier rounds, such as Round 4, top-tier programs like CSE at IIT Bombay opened at Rank 1 and closed at Rank 66. Other highly sought-after courses, such as Electrical Engineering at IIT Bombay, closed around Rank 405. In Round 5, these numbers remained largely locked, with minimal shifts due to the previous withdrawal deadline for IIT seats closing on July 14, 2026.

NIT, IIIT, and GFTI Trends

For the 31 NITs, 26 IIITs, and 56 GFTIs, closing ranks showed a slight relaxation of approximately 2% to 5% compared to Round 4. This minor drop occurred as candidates finalized their choices or opted out to prepare for state-level counselings or alternative career tracks. For instance, Core branches like Mechanical and Civil Engineering at top NITs saw their closing ranks extend slightly further down the Common Rank List (CRL).

Post-Allotment Guidelines for Candidates

Important Note: There are no separate emails or SMS alerts sent to candidates regarding their seat allotment. You must check your status manually on the portal.

Candidates who are satisfied with their Round 5 allotment must complete the online reporting process before July 20, 2026. The sequence of steps includes:

  1. Accepting the Seat: Log in to the portal and download the Provisional Seat Allotment Letter.

  2. Uploading Documents: Provide mandatory certificates, including Class 10 and 12 mark sheets, category certificates (if applicable), and a medical certificate.

  3. Fee Payment: Pay the Seat Acceptance Fee online using net banking, credit/debit cards, or UPI.

Any seats that remain vacant across the NIT+ system after the completion of Round 5 reporting will be officially compiled and handed over to the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB). CSAB will then conduct special spot-rounds starting later this month to fill the remaining institutional vacancies.
