Post-Allotment Options: Freeze, Float, or Reject
Upon receiving an offer in Round 3, candidates must make a deliberate choice regarding their allotted seat. The JAC offers standard decision pathways to manage acceptance:
1. Freeze Option
Candidates who are fully satisfied with their assigned institute and discipline should select the ‘Freeze’ option. This choice is made after paying the required Seat Acceptance Fee. It permanently secures the current seat and removes the candidate from consideration for higher-preference choices in any upcoming counseling rounds.
2. Float Option
Candidates who wish to accept the current offer but remain eligible for potential upgrades to higher-preference campuses or programs in Round 4 or Round 5 must choose the ‘Float’ option. To float, the SAF must still be paid by the deadline. If an upgrade occurs in a future round, the previous seat is automatically vacated. If no upgrade is possible, the current seat remains retained.
3. Reject Offer
Candidates who do not wish to join the allotted institute or decide to exit the admission process entirely can reject the offer. Please note that explicitly choosing this option, or simply failing to pay the SAF before the August 13 deadline, will result in the complete cancellation of the admission offer and removal from all further counseling rounds.
IISER Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF) Breakdown
To confirm any allotted seat, applicants must submit the online Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF) within the prescribed deadline. The fee structure depends on candidate category:
| Category | Total Fee Payable | SAF Component | Non-Refundable Admin Fee |
| General / EWS / OBC / OBC-NCL / PwD / KM | ₹35,000 | ₹25,000 | ₹10,000 |
| SC / ST | ₹17,500 | ₹12,500 | ₹5,000 |
