NIFT Admission 2026: Spot Round Registration Window Closes Tonight @nift.ac.in — Final Opportunity for Design Aspirants

The window of opportunity is officially closing for thousands of fashion and design hopefuls across India. The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) will wrap up the registration process for the NIFT 2026 Spot Round Counselling tonight, July 22, 2026, strictly at 12:00 Midnight. Candidates who hold a valid Common Merit Rank (CMR) from the NIFT 2026 entrance examination and wish to secure or upgrade a seat must submit their online applications today through the official admission portals at nift.ac.in or nift.admissions.nic.in.

The Spot Round represents the final, decisive stage of the NIFT 2026 seat allocation procedure. Designed to fill all remaining vacant seats across undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) courses, this round is the last gateway for students trying to enter India’s premier network of fashion institutes for the 2026–27 academic year.

Important Schedule and Key Deadlines

To ensure candidates do not miss crucial cut-off times, the official timeline issued by the admission authority outlines the following key dates:

Event Date & Deadline
Spot Round Registration & Fee Payment July 19 to July 22, 2026 (Closing at 12:00 Midnight)
Document Verification (For new candidates) July 19 to July 22, 2026 (Ending by 6:00 PM / Midnight)
Choice Filling & Modifications July 19 to July 23, 2026 (Closing at 12:00 Midnight)

Admission Fee Payment Window July 24 to July 27, 2026 (Until 12:00 Midnight)
Physical Reporting at Allotted Campus July 29, 2026

Who Can Participate in the Spot Round?

Unlike earlier rounds where restrictions applied based on status, the Spot Round opens up doors for a wider pool of applicants, provided they hold a valid NIFT 2026 CMR. Eligible categories include:

  1. Unallotted Candidates: Applicants who participated in previous counseling rounds (Rounds 1 to 3) but were not allotted any seat.

  2. Fresh Applicants with Valid CMR: Candidates who cleared the entrance exam and earned a valid rank but missed registering during earlier counseling rounds.

  3. Seat Upgrade Seekers: Students who were allotted a seat in earlier rounds, accepted it, and paid the academic fees, but now wish to upgrade to a higher-preference campus or specialization.

  4. Withdrawn & Unpaid Candidates: Applicants who were allotted seats earlier but opted to withdraw, or those who failed to pay the seat acceptance fee on time.

  5. Lateral Entry Aspirants: Candidates qualifying under the NIFT Lateral Entry Admission (NLEA) track with a valid rank.

Note: Candidates rejected during document verification due to invalid category certificates or non-fulfillment of basic eligibility rules are strictly excluded from participating.

Courses Covered Under Spot Counselling

The spot round is taking place simultaneously across three primary entry streams:

  • Undergraduate Programmes (UG): Bachelor of Design (B.Des) specializations—including Fashion Design, Textile Design, Accessory Design, Knitwear Design, Leather Design, and Fashion Communication—as well as Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.FTech).

  • Postgraduate Programmes (PG): Master of Design (M.Des), Master of Fashion Management (MFM), and Master of Fashion Technology (M.FTech).

  • UG Lateral Entry (NLEA): Direct entry into higher semesters of undergraduate programs.

Step-by-Step Guide to Complete Registration

Applicants completing their submission today should follow these straightforward steps:

  1. Visit the Portal: Open the official website at nift.admissions.nic.in or follow the link from nift.ac.in/admission.

  2. Log In: Enter your application credentials and password associated with your NIFT 2026 Common Merit Rank.

  3. Review Seat Matrix: Check the official Tentative Vacancy Position list uploaded on the portal to see which campuses and programs have available seats.

  4. Pay Participation Fee: Complete the non-refundable Spot Round participation fee of ₹5,000 online.

  5. Fill and Lock Choices: Select your preferred order of campuses and streams. While registration closes tonight, candidates will have until midnight on July 23 to lock or modify their final choices. Always remember to explicitly lock your selections; unlocked choices may lead to disqualification.

What Happens After Registration?

Once choice filling closes on July 23, NIFT officials will process the entries and release the Spot Round Seat Allotment Results on July 24, 2026.

Students who receive a fresh allotment will have from July 24 to July 27 to pay the full admission fee online to confirm their seat. Finally, all newly admitted and upgraded students must physically report to their respective allotted NIFT campus on July 29, 2026, for final document verification and the start of classes.

Because this is the absolute final round, NIFT has clarified that no further counseling sessions or withdrawal windows will be opened. Aspirants are advised to complete their applications well before midnight today to avoid last-minute internet or portal server slowdowns.
